At SELF, our woman moves from being an independent lone ranger to becoming a pillar of support for her community. Here, they can find fellow women to lean on.
While our women face many interconnected challenges, we realise that there’s an ecosystem of support that they can tap on. Not only can they find avenues to support one another, their families can also access the Kinship Network for support. By building on power of the community, we aspire to create a positive and lasting effect that helps our women with their social, emotional, and mental needs.
Through our interactions with the women we serve, we found out that these are some of the concerns they face regularly:
This need is even more prominent amongst single mothers who are the sole breadwinners and caretakers of their families. By connecting mothers who may not know each other, but are from similar backgrounds, we found that they could easily strike a chord with each other. They swapped child care experiences, , and shared useful knowledge with one another.
Moreover, this peer support gave our often self-reliant women a listening ear that they could confide in. We hope our women can replenish their mental, emotional and physical strength through this Kinship Network.
