Growing the next
generation of selves
SELF started as a youth-led movement — and working with young people is still at our core. We build the social-emotional competencies that carry youths through life: self-awareness, emotional regulation, and the confidence to contribute.

Built on SEL competencies
Our youth work is grounded in social-emotional learning (SEL) — the research-backed competencies young people need to understand themselves, relate to others, and act with purpose. Every programme we run develops them deliberately.
Understanding self
Building self-awareness and emotional literacy. Before young people can direct their lives, they need an honest, compassionate picture of themselves. Through guided reflection and group work, youths:
- Explore their interests, values, strengths, and personality
- Learn to name and understand their emotions as they happen
- Notice thought patterns and triggers — and what they're telling them

Connection
Developing empathy, communication, and belonging. Growth doesn't happen alone — it happens between people. In our circles and group work, youths:
- Practise listening deeply and taking the perspective of others
- Communicate their feelings and needs clearly and kindly
- Find genuine belonging in a community of peers who get it
Empowerment
Building confidence, resilience, and personal responsibility. Young people who come through SELF don't just grow — they become leaders in their own way. With our support, youths:
- Lead their own VIA projects and school initiatives
- Take real ownership and build resilience through real responsibility
- Showcase their work to their school and community

From participant to changemaker
Growth at SELF doesn't end with a workshop. Young people who come through our programmes are invited to keep going — each stage deepens their competencies and widens their impact.
Participant
Youths join our workshops and group programmes, building self-awareness and emotional regulation in a safe, supportive space.
Peer facilitator
As they grow, youths return to volunteer and co-facilitate — practising leadership while making the space safer for the next person.
Changemaker
With mentoring and support, youths lead their own community projects — turning what they've gained into contribution.
